Cherry Pie Picache: "Agot Isidro Went Viral Because Of Her Stand, I"m One With Her"
Picache spoke during a mass celebrating World Day Against Death Penalty where she took a stand against the mass extrajudicial killings and death penalty.
“A colleague of mine, Agot Isidro, went viral because of her message, her opinion and her stand. I want to say that I’m one with her. We’re artists, we’re in arts and culture, but we have our own minds, conviction and principles,” Picache said on Monday.
Isidro took to Facebook to express her frustrations against the President for his many expletive-filled tirades against international bodies such as the United Nations (UN), the European Union (EU) and the United States.
Picache emphasized during the speech that she was against extrajudicial killings and the reimposition of death penalty.
“I believe that execution or death is not the means to achieve justice. Violence and death are not the way to end crimes. I’m here to express my disagreement over the extra-judicial killings.”
During the speech, Picache recalled the incident two years ago where her 75-year-old mother, Zenaida was killed, noting that she too was a victim herself.
“I am also a victim of violence. My mother was killed two years ago by a drug addict. And just the same, I’m here to reaffirm my commitment against the death penalty,” Picache added.
“I am a mother. I want my child to grow up in a free, democratic society. … Let us continue praying because our country needs it now.”
The mass for World Day Against Death Penalty was held on October 10, Monday at the chapel of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) held in Intramuros.
