Actors Guild of the Philippines Plead to the President Not to Name Celebrities Who Use Drugs

The group of Filipino actors is against Duterte's plan to name the celebrities involved in illegal drugs.

The Filipino Actors Guild appealed to President Rodrigo Duterte not to drop the names of celebrities who are involved in illegal drugs.

The president of the guild, Rez Cortez, stated that they support the administration of Duterte in eradicating illegal drugs in the Philippines but claimed that naming the celebrities publicly won't do any good.

He explained that the celebrities using drugs might depend on them further if their names get tainted.

"Ito ay mga drug user. So ano ang dapat nating gawin? Tulungan natin 'yung mga drug user," Cortez said.

"Papano natin sila matutulungan? Pwedeng ipa-rehab, pwedeng magpa-detox, kasama na rin 'yung livelihood. Kasi minsan yung iba nagdrugs dahil walang trabaho, walang magawa, so nagiging escapist 'yung kanilang outlet," he added.

On September, Chairman Martin Diño of Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption revealed that there are 50 celebrities in the drug list of Duterte that has yet to be disclosed.

PNP Chief Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa also assured that they will not give any exemptions even if they are celebrities as it would be not fair and just to do so.
