Philippines, we were never free!
Ang mga Hapon pumapasok dito, tayo ay masaya bumibisita sa Japan. Reconciled na tayo.. bakit tayong mga mamamayan hindi pa pwedeng mag-reconcile?
- ATTY. ESTELITO MENDOZA, Former lawyer of Ferdinand Marcos

Why can't we, really?
The Spaniards oppressed us for more than 300 years and yet we still have their culture. We call our language Filipino when we got that name out of slavery. We are even proud to say our language is our identity when "pero" and "lugar" are just some of the loanwords we got from these oppressors.
We thank them for bringing Christianity to our land when they slaughtered and raped our fellowmen to impose it. Yet again, we celebrate the Philippine–Spanish Friendship Day every year.
But how come we can't forgive a fellow Filipino who served the country for so many years before the Martial Law happened? We even had him stay in the seat for 20 years and before that, people voted for him for the senate and house of representatives.
So Philippines, are we really free?
After all these years, haven't we really moved on yet from the past? How long do we need to keep this hatred? Should we just let our grandchildren inherit this animosity?
Why can't we just let this man's remains be buried properly and let his soul rest in peace? Why can't just we be a nation and heal our wounds together?
