Duterte wants Inquirer’s stolen property to be occupied by the people
President Rodrigo Duterte had long been lambasting media giants ABS-CBN and Inquirer, but during his speech at the 50th founding anniversary of Davao del Norte, he focused on the Rufino-Prieto family.
“Magpublish kayo, kaming mga gobyerno, akala mo magnanakaw,” Duterte said of Inquirer’s owners.
“They occupy Mile Long ang contract ana, 50 years, extension kausa. Why extension? Ang kita ng mga tindahan diha, sila’y ga kolekta” he added.
The Mile Long property in Makati City had already endured two court filings in 2015 and 2016 when the Makati government wanted Sunvar Realty Development Corporation, a developer owned by the Rufino-Prieto family, to vacate the 2.9 hectare property.
Even when the Metropolitan Trial Court (MTC) in Makati decided in favor of the Makati government in 2015, the Court of Appeals rejected the decision in 2016 and allowed Sunvar to keep the property.
“Kaya itong korte, kayo ring mga judges bantay kayo. Hindi, ganito eh. Pag naa gani bidding, misking si Consunji and Ayala….'pag naa’y bidding, mag-apply restraining order….Lahat ng protesta, there never was a finding that it was overpriced,” said Duterte.
The President argued that the Mile Long property duly belongs to the people considering how Sunvar illegally possessed the 2.9 hectare land after being unable to pay Php 8 billion worth of taxes for the property.
“I will not allow you to do that to the Filipino people. You return the property to the republic of the Philippines,” Duterte said.
He even urged the public to start occupying the property since it belongs to the people.
