Sincere homeless man gets a job and apartment for returning lost wallet
His honesty led him to an opportunity.
Stealing from others is never good, even if you are poor. A homeless man from Thailand, Woralop, 44 years old, recently became a reminder for this after his story went viral.
A designer Hermes wallet was found by Woralop which contained 20,000 Thailand baht (578 USD) and several credit cards. Having only 9 baht (roughly 3 USD), he wasn't tempted to just keep the money for himself instead, he went straight to the local police station and handed the expensive wallet with the complete amount of money still intact.
His sincerity was greatly rewarded as the owner of the wallet, Nitty Pongkriangyos, 30 years old, was exceptionally thankful when the police contacted him about his lost wallet.
"I was totally surprised when the police told me they had my wallet as I didn't even know I'd lost it. My first reaction was 'wow', if it was me in that position with no money I probably would have kept it," he said.
Instead of rewarding Woralop money, he offered him a job which is more beneficial in long-term.
"He was homeless and had just a few coins in his pocket and still handed it in. That shows a good, honest person. Just the kind of staff we need," Nitty added.
Woralop now has a job with a monthly salary of 11,000 baht (318 USD) along with an apartment all due to his honesty.
A photo of Woralop in his new apartment was shared by Tarika, Nitty's girlfriend.
"Woralop is such a good example that being kind really does pay off. When you're kind to another, another is kind to you," she said.
Woralop expressed gratefulness to the couple, saying: "I'm so grateful to be given this chance to turn my life around. Having a clean bed to sleep in makes me so happy now."
"I want to thank Nitty and Tarika for the kindness they have both shown to me."
Why being honest is such a good thing?
According to LDS.org, "Being honest means choosing not to lie steal, cheat, or deceive in any way. When we are honest we build strength of character. We are blessed with peace of mind and self-respect."
